Day 59 - Hirschorn to Heidelberg - 28kms

Needless to say after the previous nights exploits we woke feeling less than refreshed although we were both glad that upon checking in the bathroom mirror there were two ugly reflections looking back!

This was it our final days ride on the Neckar a leisurely 28kms of paths and forest trails mirroring the run of the Neckar through outlying villages into the beautiful baroque city of Heidelberg with it's imposing castle.

Upper reaches of the Neckar !

The weather was hot again so after a stenuous 25km over flat surfaces we decided it was cuppauchino time in the old town centre watching the hordes of tourists being off loaded from inter city coaches.

The remaining 3 kms was through the "cycle friendly" city where it was easier for us to simply follow someone than work out what was the go with the myriad of lane markings and street signs. We ted up a bat free hotel right next to the main train station to aid our getaway to Paris by way of Stuttgart tommorrow.

After a tough day we wandered the streets of this impressive city untouched by ww2 and home of Germany's oldest university in 1380! It was time also to mark off another adventure completed 350kms of beaut cycling along the romantic Neckar river.

With the OZ gang arriving we're looking forward to further cycling adventures to come in France, Spain and Switzerland!

  1. And not only that, Heidelberg was named after Kev's old golf club!

    Well done boys.
