Ferry looking back at Lochranza |
at the tour record time of 130pm - yes it was only 42 kms, yes it was mainly flat and yes the reason it was only 42 kms was because I'd lost the day maps requiring us to go by a direct route but hey who's picky a record is a record !
We left the beautifully placed town of Lochranza just in time to catch the 930 am ferry to Claonaig on the mull of Kintyre. An initial climb had us sweating in the humid weather but thankfully the man eating midges of the previous evening had decided to sleep in
The rest of the ride to the historic harbour town of Tarbet was on good surfaces allowing us to have an early lunch which usually means Henley buying out and eating the town's supply of fruit and bread
Having lost the days ride map it was a matter of follow the main road to Lochgilphead a very scenic ride mainly on roads running alongside Loch Fyne. Our early arrival allowed Kev to search out a bike shop to do some remedial work on his brakes and to foolishly challenge me at
mini golf on an 18 hole course cut out of grass on the foreshore of Lochgilphead - at 3 up after 9 KH became cocky before the inevitable bulldogs like fadeout occurred!
The game finished with me finding the lost day map as well as an extra putter that I'd somehow picked up thinking I had not got mine
Fearing Alzheimer induced riding fatigue I packed up sent KH to get his repaired bike and went off in search of our B&B only 1/2 a mile away
KH is only a few Kms short of 2000kms while the 42 kms was enough to just tip me over the 4000km mark something I can assure you I won't be repeating
It's off to Oban tommorrow and potentially the biggest challenge of the lot the incredibly beautiful and wild Outer Hebrides complete with wind although nothing like the wind I've been subjected to rooming with Henley !
To do a trip like this KH is short of a few things, not just kms. We had a beautiful meal of Osso Bucco last night, dessert of Stick Date Pudding and finished it off with a large Capuccino, Kev, wish you were here.
